Another day....

I just realized that I didn't blog about what a great weekend we had!

Friday evening, we just hung out at home.

Saturday, we took a family shopping trip to Super Walmart in the morning. That's a big deal, because there are none near Kendall - we drove to Florida City, since I had seen a slow cooker that I wanted on the website and it was in stock (and on roll back!) at that location. We grabbed some Arby's for lunch - Brooke loved the roast beef! Saturday evening, Jim worked and Brooke and I played at home and ate spaghetti for dinner - another food she loves!

In the middle of the night, I realized that my phone was ringing incessently. It was about 2 hours after Jim was supposed to get home, so I was scared something was really wrong. Turns out, no one had come in to relieve him - he ended up working 16 hours, until 8 am Sunday morning - at least he got 6 hours of overtime!

On Sunday, Jim was off after what happened the night before, and we got to spend Father's Day with him. We went to eat at the Golden Corral at his insistence - I hate going out to eat on Father's and MOther's days, everyplace gets too crowded! This was no different - they had even shoved extra tables in, which made it extra hard to get to the buffet. Oh, well, Daddy was happy, and Brooke LOVED the variety of foods she got to eat in one meal.

Now it's Tuesday, and we're back at work. Brooke and I are looking forward to our play date tomorrow evening after work, and I'm hoping to make it to the movies with a friend this weekend while Brooke has some alone time with Daddy.

Last month....

...until Brooke is one has started. Where has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday I was on "modified bed rest" - I had to leave work early every day to go home and lay on my left side for 3 hours before dinner. It sucked laying on one side for that long, my left hip killed me, but I was secretly glad to get out of work early everyday and have some time to relax. A few weeks later, I was taken out of work and put on modified bed rest for the last week of my pregnancy.

Brooke's party plans are coming along great. We know the cake is being made by the same woman who made our wedding cake. The invites are done, I just need to print them at Walgreens and get them in the mail. The decorations have been ordered and delivered to my mom's, we just have to order some additional balloons up there. The menu has been decided, it's just a matter of getting the food and preparing it. I have the baby Cookie Monster cookie cutters that we'll make and decorate the night before. Brooke's outfit is planned, my niece just has to pick out her "party dress," haha. I'm so excited!

Jim and I have to shop for Brooke's birthday presents. I think we're going to try to take a day off together, drop her off at daycare, shop near my office, and pick her up early. That should make for a nice day, and we've only been out alone once since she's been born.

We've been talking a lot about when we're going to try to have another baby - I think we've decided we want Brooke to be 2 before the new baby would be born - so we have some waiting to do. Rather, that's what I want, haha. They'd still be close enough in age to be playmates, but not too close. I also decided I want a fall or winter baby, LOL, it was rough being 9 months pregnant in this heat!

I still need to figure out how to post pictures on here, so if anyone can give some advice or instructions, I would appreciate it!

I'm starting my diet fresh today. My goal is to exercise at night after I get Brooke to bed - so I'll get her down by 9, exercise, clean my kitchen, shower, and hopefully be in bed by no later than 11 myself. I already get up around 5:30-5:45 in the morning, so I know that getting up earlier to exercise is not even an option - I won't even lie to myself about it!

Eleven months and Father's Day

Tomorrow, Brooke will be 11 months old - where has the time gone? She just started standing up to furniture - well, it's usually to blocks or toys that are NOT stationary and are pretty low to the ground, so she's standing up but bending over to hold on. As I type, she's working on standing up to the Bose bass speaker next to the TV.

She eats more and more table food every day and loves it. Today, she had some roast beef at Arby's. She loved it!

I can't believe that in just 1 month, she and her friends will be 1! Today, we received her first birthday invitation, to her friend Andrea's party. It's so much fun planning Brooke's party, and I"m excited to take her to her friends' parties, but the thought of these three being almost 1 makes me a little sad :(

Since Brooke's friends won't be able to come to her party in PA, I'm thinking of having a (very) small pool party sometime in August. I haven't planned anything yet, and probably won't really start planning anything until we have everything ready for our trip - which is coming so soon and we are so excited for!

Tomorrow will also be Jim's first Father's Day. He has to work in the morning, so I think we'll just do dinner at home and maybe swim for a bit after he gets here. I know he'll be happy just to spend time with his girl :-)

Tomorrow is also my parents' 40th wedding anniversary - Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!

I'm working on a surprise for my friend Jacqui (Brooke's godmother). She was released from the hospital this past Wednesday, and now she'll be home until it's time for her bone marrow transplant. They're holding a benefit dinner for her on July 31 in Pittsburgh, and my surprise has something to do with that -hopefully it will come through!

If anyone is interested, her family is selling orange bracelets for $5 to help raise money for her transplant - they may possibly be stuck with 40% of the $400,000 bill of the transplant, and that's not including the fact she now has to convert her health insurance to Cobra, be off work for a year, and copays for medications. If you want to read her story and send your well-wishes (she loves to get messages!), go to www.caringbridge.org/visit/jacquibuckley

Another week....

..has passed without me blogging.

On Thursday, I was called from daycare because Brooke had a fever of 101. On Friday, she still had a fever of 101.2 (it came down with tylenol but went back up as soon as the meds wore off) - turns out she is getting FOUR teeth at one time - her two top front teeth and her two bottom front teeth. Poor thing! Fever's been gone now, but you can tell they're still bothering her.

While we were at the dr's office, I read B a book that was in the exam room. When I finished, I laid it back down, and she said "Boo!" (boo like the sound in book, not boo like when you're trying to scare someone.) I thought I was hearing things (so far, she hadn't said anything other than mama, dada, and other baby jabber) but she kept it up. Then, I picked up the book, and she grabbed it from my hands and said boo! I will always remember that she said her first word while talking about Dr. Suess's The Things You See on Mulberry Street, and I think I'll buy her that book for her first birthday and write a sentimental message inside for her.

She's started trying to stand up more and more now - she hasn't quite figured it out, but that's because she tries to stand up to things like her carseat or swing - either they're not tall enough, or they move and make her fall. I know she'll get it soon, though.

Other than that, nothing big going on. We spent this past Saturday with my sister and her boyfriend, which was nice. We're really looking forward to getting together with family in August!

Update

Nothing too much has been going on lately - when you have kids, it is so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day routine that not much ever changes!

My sister and her boyfriend were here this past weekend. We went shopping, went out to dinner, and went swimming. Now, they're cruising to the Bahamas and will be at my house again this weekend. We're thinking of going to the zoo.

Jim and I have been talking and have decided that when our lease is up in November, we want to move to Broward County. The drive is getting to be too much for me on a daily basis, and he could transfer up here. We both like the area better. I have a couple friends keeping their eyes out for houses to rent, and I've been looking at townhouses in the Sunrise area. We do need to rent, we're not in a position to buy at this point, but we're not looking to spend much more a month than our current rent of $1300/month.

Brooke is so much fun these days and has developed quite a personality. She loves to make people laugh - over the weekend, she even put a french fry bucket on her head like a hat! Of course, we took pictures before taking it off her head ;-)
